Thomas Stellmach

Thomas Stellmach (* 1965 in Straubing ) is an animation film director, producer, author and animator . For his independent productions, in addition to around 50 international awards, he received the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Oscar in 1997 for the stop-motion film Quest , which was awarded the SDR Audience Award, today's SWR Audience Award , in 1996 at the Stuttgart Animated Film Festival was awarded. He also took part in the workshop for young filmmakers (now the workshop of the young film scene ) with the films Ätsch and Gulp .

He studied animation with the animated film artist and professor Paul Driessen at the Kassel Art College . After completing his artistic degree, he founded the Lichthof - Film & Animation studio in Kassel with two partners in 2000 and produced for television and advertising until 2008. Stellmach gave up his share in the company in 2009 and has since concentrated on artistic projects again. The productions include computer animation , stop motion , animation and pixilation . In his latest animated abstract experimental film Virtuos Virtuell , he and his director partner and artist Maja Oschmann visualized the overture to the opera The Alchymist by Louis Spohr in black ink and in stereoscopy. The 3D version of the film has been integrated into the permanent exhibition of the Spohr Museum since 2013 . In the same year the film was also released on DVD.
