Tyron Montgomery (born April 29, 1967 ) is a German film and media maker, originally from Ireland , who now lives and works in Munich.

Life

After studying physics in Wuppertal , Tyron Montgomery studied visual communication at the Kunsthochschule Kassel in the 1990s with a focus on film, animation and photography (graduated in 1998 with distinction).

During his studies he made the short film Quest in 1996 , which was awarded an "Oscar" for the best animated short film and over 40 international prizes (including the audience award at the Stuttgart Animated Film Festival and the Cartoon d'Or ). The “Oscar” in particular made the hitherto unknown film student famous overnight. As the youngest award winner in history, the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art awarded Tyron Montgomery in 1997 the Goethe plaque of the State of Hesse “in recognition of the special merits in the cultural life of the State of Hesse”.

A liaison with the French actress Aurélia Nolin , best known from Éric Rohmer's feature film Conte d'été (Summer) , took Tyron Montgomery to Paris in 1997, where he lived and worked for the next three years, primarily as a lighting designer, photographer and video artist for theater productions. At the same time he worked in London and Bristol as a director, cameraman and VFX supervisor on technically complex commercials. During this time he developed Interlaced Light Recording , a special model trick recording process that allows more flexibility in post-production while saving costs.

In 1997, Tyron Montgomery founded his own film production company (Montgomery Film) and produced, Our Garden, the world's first stop-trick film for the big screen, which was completely digitally recorded and edited as a commissioned work for the Federal Environment Ministry . Shortly afterwards, the second company, "X-Plosive Media Network" for web design and multimedia productions, was established as a TeleWorking experiment: the network's around 20 graphic artists, web designers and programmers were spread all over the world and never got to know each other personally .

In 1998 the feature film The Green Cloud brought Tyron Montgomery back to Germany. He oversaw the film production for 18 months as VFX supervisor and his two companies produced all the model tricks as well as numerous effects and animations. In 2000, Tyron Montgomery moved from Paris to Munich. Montgomery Film and X-Plosive Media became the eye stimulus agency for Internet, multimedia and film productions.

In 2007, Tyron Montgomery and Seymour Duncker and Rajesh Setty founded iCharts in Silicon Valley , which develops online software for interactive data visualization. Investments in the company totaled US $ 16.3 million. In 2008 iCharts was voted one of the 50 most innovative companies worldwide at the TechCrunch50 Conference. The underlying method “Creation, Sharing and Embedding of Interactive Charts” was registered as a patent on September 18, 2012 by the US Patent Office. iCharts was integrated into numerous companies and platforms and was voted NetSuite SuiteApp of the Year in 2016. After the successful start, Tyron Montgomery left iCharts to continue to be active in Munich. In April 2018, iCharts Inc. was filed for bankruptcy in the California Northern Bankruptcy Court.

Since 1997 Tyron Montgomery has been teaching at several schools, including a. at the Munich Film Workshop and the Bavarian Academy for Television. He lectures at film festivals and was a member of the jury for the red dot design award in 2007 .

From 2004 to 2014 Tyron Montgomery was married to the jewelry designer Anne Gericke. They have two children: daughter Ava (born December 19, 2002) and son Arian (born March 10, 2008). Both children can be seen regularly in TV and cinema productions.
