Quest is a German puppet film from 1996. It is considered one of the most successful German short films . It was awarded the Oscar for the best animated short film in 1996 , the Cartoon d'Or in 1996 and over 40 other international prizes.

The cartoon tells the story of a sand person who wanders through worlds of sand, paper, stone and iron in search of water and in which he has to master all kinds of dangers and challenges. The sandman's life begins in the desert, where he wakes up in the sand and goes in search of water. He hears the steady dripping of the water, but as soon as he gets to the water point, the water dries up and he falls into a new world. The threat to the environment is increasing from level to level. The last is a machine-ruled world, which itself consists of an above-ground and an underground part. Deep in the underground area, surrounded by threatening machines, the sand man finally sees the longed-for wet through a rusty hole in the ground. But before he can enlarge the hole in the ground to get to the water, he is crushed by the walls of a huge press. Grinded into sand, it flows through the small hole into the water down to the sandy bottom of the ocean, where it is formed into a new body.
Production and publication
Quest is a puppet cartoon that was made at the Kassel Art College . The story is by Thomas Stellmach and was adapted as a script by Tyron Montgomery. Montgomery also directed, while Stellmach also acted as producer. The music comes from Wolfram Spyra.
The film was shown for the first time in April 1996 at the Dresden Film Festival . Screenings at festivals in Poland, the United States, Sweden and other countries followed.
