Edgard Farasijn

Edgard Farasijn (also Farasyn ; born August 14, 1858 in Antwerp ; † March 22, 1938 ibid) was a Belgian genre, children and vedute painter and copperplate engraver.

Farasijn studied at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen with Nicaise de Keyser .

His first works depicted cute scenes from children. Around 1885 he became a fan of open air painting, creating landscapes and lively cityscapes. Later he devoted himself to the lake and beach pictures. That is why he often visited the health resort Oostduinkerke on the North Sea coast.

In 1885 he was appointed professor at the Antwerp Academy. In 1891 he founded the group “De XIII” in Antwerp and was also a member of the group “Wees Uzelf” (Be yourself).

He first exhibited in Brussels in 1878 and won several medals at international exhibitions in Sydney (1879), Antwerp (1894) and Brussels (1897) as well as at the Ghent Fair (1883).

He also engaged in wall painting, took part in the wall paintings in the stairwell of the Antwerp city hall.
