Nicaise de Keyser (born August 26, 1813 in Santvliet near Antwerp , † July 17, 1887 ibid) was an academic Belgian history and portrait painter .

Live and act

As the son of a wealthy farmer, De Keyser was a student of Joseph Jacobs and Mathieu Ignace van Brée in Antwerp before he went to Italy in 1839. On October 6, 1840, he married the genre painter Isabella Telghuys .

In 1855 de Keyser succeeded Gustave Wappers as director of the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten Antwerp , of which he became a member in 1845.
