Louise d'Orléans , full name Louise Marie Thérèse Charlotte Isabelle d'Orléans , (born April 3, 1812 in Palermo , Sicily , † October 11, 1850 in Ostend , Belgium ) was the first queen of the Belgians through her marriage to Leopold I. .

Life

Louise was the eldest daughter of Louis-Philippe I , who became King of the French in 1830, and his wife Maria Amalia , Princess of Bourbon and Naples-Sicily .

She married on August 9, 1832 in Compiègne, France, Leopold I , King of the Belgians, son of Duke Franz I of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and Countess Auguste Reuss zu Ebersdorf . She bore him four children, of whom the first-born Louis Philippe of Belgium died when he was just under one year old.

Louise died on October 11, 1850 at the age of 38 in Ostend , Belgium, in the summer residence of the royal family. The summer residence is now used as the Ostend City History Museum (Langestraat 69). Louise's death room has been preserved and can be visited. She was buried on October 13, 1850 in the Church of Our Lady in Brussels .
