Crown Prince Louis Philippe Leopold of Belgium

Louis Philippe Leopold Victor Ernest of Belgium (* July 24, 1833 in Laken Castle , Brussels ; † May 16, 1834 there ) was Crown Prince of Belgium .

Life

Louis Philippe Leopold was the first son of Leopold I , King of the Belgians (1790-1865) from his second marriage to Princess Louise d'Orléans . He was the first Belgian prince ever. The title of " Duke of Brabant ", which is customary for the Belgian Crown Prince , was only created in 1840 for his brother Leopold . In addition to his father's name, he was also given the name of his grandfather, the French King Louis Philippe, when he was baptized in the St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral in Brussels by Engelbert Sterckx .

The Hereditary Prince died of an inflammation of the oral mucosa before his first birthday. He was first buried in the crypt of the Dukes of Brabant in the St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral in Brussels, later his remains were reburied next to his parents in the Laeken Church of Our Lady .

After the death of the crown prince, his father tried to designate one of his Coburg nephews as heir to the throne due to the lack of a presumptive heir, but this failed due to the veto of the Belgian guarantee powers.
