Edouard Jean Conrad Hamman
Edouard Jean Conrad Hamman (born September 24, 1819 in Ostend , † March 31, 1888 in Paris ) was a Belgian-French painter , engraver and illustrator.
Hamman became a student of the academy in Antwerp , joined Nicaise de Keyser's studio and devoted himself to history and the historical genre. After he made his debut in the Brussels exhibition (1846), he settled in Paris and painted a series of pictures that captivate with their interesting or piquant material and coloring. This includes:
- Rabelais at the French court,
- Charles IX and his body wound doctor,
- Columbus ,
- Dante in Ravenna (1859),
- Entry of Duke Albrecht VII into Ostend (both in the Museum in Brussels),
- The tales of Margaret of Navarre ,
- The childhood of Franz I ,
- Charles V's childhood or reading Erasmus (Museum of Luxembourg in Paris),
- The feast of the Bucentaur in Venice (1867),
- Fleeing Huguenot family (1870) and others
