Edgard de Larminat

Edgard de Larminat (born November 29, 1895 in Alès , † July 1, 1962 in Paris ) was a French Général d'armée in World War II .

Shortly after the defeat of France, he joined the Free French Armed Forces (fr. Forces françaises libres , FFL for short) as one of the most important military figures in order to continue fighting against the Third Reich and the Vichy regime. He became a main figure of Free France in Africa as a member of the Conseil de Défense de l'Empire and as commander of the 1st Free French Division (fr. 1ère Division Française Libre , or 1ère DFL). He played a crucial role in the liberation of France and Italy.
