It is almost 42 meters high and has 12 floors. Until 2014 it was the seat of the telecommunications company MEO , since 2015 a call center company has been based here.

The Edifício Marconi is registered under number 33804 in the SIPA , the list of the Portuguese monument authority.

History and use

The building was built in 1992 as the headquarters of Companhia Portuguesa Rádio Marconi , a telecommunications company founded in 1925 under the license of Guglielmo Marconi . The Portuguese architect Raul Martins was commissioned with the planning . He was supported in the electrical and thermal planning by the electrical engineer José Murta Lourenço, the construction company was EDIFER.

Martins created a postmodern style building in a prominent urban development location at the intersection of Avenida Álvaro Pais / Avenida 5 de Outubro, immediately north of the Entrecampos train station . Inspired by a radio wave , a wave-shaped building was created. The floors, which steadily decrease in size, create a stair-like image. The facade is clad with white aluminum panels that contrast the golden color of the frames and other elements. In front of the building's entrance is the plastic Mapa da Memória Inicial by Espiga Pinto .

After Marconi was incorporated into Portugal Telecom in 2002 , the building became the headquarters of the telecommunications company TMN , later MEO . In 2007 Portugal Telecom sold the house for an unknown amount to a real estate fund owned by Caixa Geral de Depósitos . MEO left the building in 2014. Initially, luxury apartments were to be built here, then the owner decided to use it as an office building. In 2015, the international call center company Teleperformance moved into the building.
