history

The station was opened on May 20, 1888, when the Linha de Cintura between Campolide and Braço de Prata or Santa Apolónia went into operation. It was designed with four lanes from the start, due to the four-track section in the direction of Sete Rios. In 1957 the entire track of the Linha de Cintura was electrified, even if the tender had already started in 1926. In the 1960s, the station was expanded to the west called Rego . In 1995 the stop 5 de Outobro went into operation 200 meters west of the station, on the other side of Avenida 5 de Outobro . The head platform was built on the occasion of the Expo 1998 in order to be able to accommodate trains of the Linha de Sintra / Linha do Oeste ending here . The previous stop at Rego had to give way. In 2002 the stop was closed again and replaced by the double-track transit stop Entrecampos-Poente , which today accommodates all trains ending in Entrecampos. The main line runs in four lanes past Entrecampos-Poente, two additional tracks were laid to develop the station, which join the four main tracks immediately before the main section. In 1999, the station was fundamentally modernized since its meaning by the establishment in the same year, the opening of the on the Ponte 25 de Abril leading Linha do Sul increased sharply. It was now also served by all long-distance CP trains to southern Portugal and by the Fertagus regional trains to Coina and Setúbal . In 2003 the four-lane section from Entrecampos to Roma-Areeiro was continued, and the rest of the expansion of the Linha de Cintura to Chelas is also in the medium term on the occasion of the planned, but temporarily put on hold, Terceira Travessia do Tejo project .
