The Lisbon Benfica train station is a regional station in the Freguesia Benfica in the Portuguese capital Lisbon . The station is only served by local trains of the CP Urbanos de Lisboa . As with all suburban train stations in Lisbon, the prefix Lisboa is dispensed with, the station is noted everywhere as Benfica .

history

The station opened on April 2, 1887, when the Sintra - Lisbon Alcântara-Terra section of the Linha de Sintra went into operation. The Campolide –Alcântara-Terra section is now part of the Linha de Cintura , after the connection to the Rossio terminus in the city center was completed in 1891 . As early as 1888, a connecting line between Benfica and the Sete Rios station on the Linha de Cintura was built, so that the trains from Sintra could get to other destinations in the Lisbon area.

Location and facility

The station is located in the eponymous Freguesia Benfica on Rua da Venezuela. The Estádio da Luz , the stadium of the Benfica football club , is located around one kilometer northeast of the train station.

The station consists of four tracks on two side and one central platform. The platforms are 220 and 221 meters long and, as is usual in the suburban network of Lisbon, 90 centimeters high. The station has a travel center, toilets, shops and restaurants.
