The Lisbon Chelas train station is a former train station in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, located on kilometer 9.7 of the Linha de Cintura in the Freguesia Marvila . The Linha Vermelha metro station of the same name on the Lisbon metro is around two kilometers away by air, the closest metro station is Olaias , just under 300 meters away, but there are no connecting routes.

investment

Due to its location at the separation of the two Cintura line branches in the direction of Braço de Prata and Santa Apolónia , the station was originally a wedge station , but the platform towards Santa Apolónia has now been dismantled. Today the station still has two side platforms on the branch towards Braço de Prata, which is to be expanded to four tracks by 2013. In operational terms, the station is a stop, although the junction called Concoardância de Xabregas is immediately west of the station.

history

The station opened in 1888 when the Linha de Cintura opened for business. In 1957 the Linha de Cintura and thus also the track area of Chelas was electrified, although the tender had already taken place in 1926 to ban the steam locomotives from the Rossio tunnel .

business

Until June 14, 2015, the station was only served by local trains of the CP Urbanos de Lisboa . The Linha de Azambuja served him every half hour with the train route Alcântara-Terra - Castanheira do Ribatejo . Since June 14, 2015, the Linha de Azambuja trains no longer stop in Chelas, so the station has no longer stopped. The Mira Sintra-Meleças - Lisbon Oriente and Sintra - Alverca train station of the Linha de Sintra do not stop at the train station either, nor do the remaining train connections between Santa Apolónia and the Linha de Cintura.

future

In preparation for the construction of the Terceira Travessia do Tejo , which is to branch off the Linha de Cintura after Chelas, the expansion of the Linha de Cintura between Roma-Areeiro and Braço de Prata to four tracks is planned. The Chelas station is to be rebuilt from scratch and moved to the north, a link with the underground is also planned, but not with the Chelas underground station, but with the nearby Olaias station.
