The Praça de Entrecampos [ ˈpɾasɐ dɯ ɛ̃tɾɯˈkɐ̃puʃ ] ( Eng . Place between the fields ) is a square in the Portuguese capital Lisbon , which is located at the intersection of Avenida das Forças Armadas (west), Avenida da República (south) and Avenida dos Estados Unidos da América (East) is located. It is thus directly between the Campo Grande (in German large field ) and the Campo Pequeno (in German small field ).
The square is surrounded by numerous high-rise buildings with many apartments. A major project of the city administration for the renovation of the residential buildings will take place until 2009. Among other things, 67,000 m² of living space, 24,000 m² of office space and 12,000 m² of retail space are to be partially renovated and built. The cost should amount to around 150 million euros.
In the middle of the square is the Monumento aos Heróis da Guerra Peninsular , inaugurated on January 8, 1932 , in English Monument to the Heroes of the Peninsulan War . The competition for the new monument in 1908 was won by the two brothers Francisco de Oliveira Ferreira (architect) and José de Oliveira Ferreira (sculptor). The first work for the foundation of the foundation took place in September 1908, due to the complicated political and economic situation in Portugal in the twenties, the construction work was not finished until 1931. The inauguration took place in the presence of the Portuguese President António Óscar de Fragoso Carmona .
The Lisbon Entrecampos train station has existed to the south of the square since 1891 and is where suburban trains from the state-owned Comboios de Portugal and the private transport company Fertagus stop today . In addition, the Lisbon Metro , now the yellow line, has been crossing under the square since 1959 and also stops north of Lisbon Entrecampos station (see Entre Campos underground station ).
