Lumiar Metro Station
Lumiar is a metro station on the Linha Amarela of the Lisbon Metro , the subway network of the Portuguese capital . The train station is located across Estrada da Torre street in the center of the Lisbon municipality of Lumiar . The neighboring train stations are Quinta das Conchas and Ameixoeira ; the station went into operation on March 27, 2004.
history
Lumiar Metro Station is part of the youngest section of the Linha Amarela between Campo Grande and Odivelas , which opened in 2004. This gave the largest district in Lisbon, Lumiar, a rail link, as it was previously only accessible by bus.
Dinis Gomes was responsible for the design of the station , whose work can be seen at many of Lisbon's underground stations. The subway station according to Lisbon standards is structurally very similar to the neighboring station Quinta das Conchas; it has two 105-meter-long side platforms as well as a mezzanine level extending from north to south. The northern exit is considered the main exit, as it leads to the local market hall and the Junta de Freguesia , comparable to a district administration.
The architects António Moutinho , Marta Lima and Susete Rebelo, who were responsible for the artistic design, wanted the subway station to be an otherwise sober building, “a kind of skin that breathes and has an organic effect”. For this reason, the three used the azulejos, which are very common in Lisbon, but used brown, beige and dark green shades. In addition, the tiles were given a surface structure that should feel similar to tree bark.
There have been no major changes since the station opened on March 27, 2004.
