Edith Ditmas

Edith Margaret Robertson Ditmas (* 1896 in Weston-super-Mare ; † February 28, 1986 ) was a British documentary , historian and writer . She was a formative functionary of the British Association of Special Libraries and Information Bureaux.

Life

From 1908 to 1912 Ditmas attended the Royal School of Daughters of Officers of the Army in Bath . From 1918 she studied English literature and language at Lady Margaret Hall , Oxford . She graduated with an Honors Degree in 1920 and a Master of Arts in 1926 .

After a few years as a teacher, Ditmas took a position in 1933 at the Association of Special Libraries and Information Bureaux (Aslib, now: Association for Information Management). She shaped Aslib for a long time, among other things as the organizer of a large number of conferences. She played a key role in the reconstruction of Aslib in the period after the Second World War and helped the association out with private funds.

From 1947 to 1962 she was editor of the Journal of Documentation . In the 1960s, Ditmas moved to Benson . A historical treatise she wrote on Benson was published posthumously.

Ditmas also wrote various short stories.
