Edith Hessenberger

Edith Hessenberger (* 1980 ) is an Austrian cultural scientist and European ethnologist . She has headed the Ötztal museums since 2018 .

Life

Edith Hessenberger grew up in Untertauern (Salzburg) and then studied ethnology and social and cultural anthropology at the University of Vienna and European ethnology and geography at the University of Innsbruck . In 2012 she did her doctorate in Innsbruck with the dissertation "Telling about life in the 20th century. Memory practice and storytelling traditions in life-history interviews using the example of the Montafon / Vorarlberg region" for Dr. phil.

She has been working as a freelance cultural scientist since 2004. From 2013 to 2018 she worked as a diversity coordinator and integration officer for the market town of Telfs . In 2018 she took over the management of the Ötztal museums ( Ötztaler Heimat- und Freilichtmuseum , Turmmuseum Ötz , Gedächtnisspeicher Ötztal ) and has been managing director of the newly founded Ötztaler Museen GmbH since January 1st, 2019.

Her main research interests are biography research, narrative research, oral history, the history of alpinism and tourism, the history of alpine mountain agriculture, migration research and diversity.
