Edmond Faral
Edmond Faral (born March 18, 1882 in Médéa , † February 8, 1958 in Paris ) was a French Romanist and Medievalist .
life and work
Faral attended school in Algiers and Paris ( Lycée Henri IV ). He studied at the École normal supérieure and in 1906 passed the Agrégation de grammaire. From 1907 to 1919 he was a high school teacher at the Ecole alsacienne in Paris (and a decorated warrior). He completed his habilitation in 1910 with the two theses Les Jongleurs en France au Moyen Âge (Paris 1910, 1964, 1971) and Mimes français du XIIIe siècle. Contribution à l'histoire du théâtre comique au moyen age (Paris 1910, Geneva 1973). From 1920 to 1925 he was Directeur d'études at the École pratique des hautes études , then until 1955 at the Collège de France Professor of Medieval Literature, from 1937 also its director (administrator). In 1936 he became a member of the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres . Faral carried the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor .
