Edom Shard

The Edomsharde (Danish: Edoms Herred ) was a Harde until 1634 , an administrative district in North Friesland that comprised the southeastern part of the island of Strand - today about the area of the Nordstrand peninsula . The island sank in the Burchardi flood in 1634. The Beltringharde joined to the north, the Pellwormharde to the west, the Südergoesharde on the mainland to the east and the Lundenbergharde to the south .

The main town of the Edom Shards, Rungholt , probably went down in the Second Marcellus Flood in 1362. Afterwards some land could be reclaimed and some churches were rebuilt, but more often the dikes had to be moved inland. In 1615 the parish of Brunock was closed after three years of failing to repair the dyke attacked by the Heverstrom and the church had collapsed. Of the other eight parishes of the Edomsharde, Odenbüll was the only one left after 1634 with the St. Vinzenz Church that still exists today. Hersbüll, Evensbüll, Trindermarsch, Gaikebüll, Stintebüll, Irgrof and Buphever went under in the Burchardi flood or were so badly damaged that they had to be abandoned in the following years. In 1642 the lost Harden were officially dissolved.
