The Edsel Citation was an upper middle class passenger car that the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn (Michigan) only manufactured in the 1958 model year under the Edsel brand name . Like the Corsair , the Citation was built on the longer Edsel platform that these models shared with Mercury vehicles .

Citation was one of two Edsel model names that were later used by other automobile manufacturers; the other was Pacer .

The Citation was the most luxurious vehicle in the Edsel model range. In addition to the luxurious interior, the cars had a number of stainless steel parts and gold-colored aluminum inserts on the rear fenders. These inserts could be painted in the body color, the color of the roof or a third color.

The Citation had a wheelbase of 3150 mm and a V8 engine with 6719 cm³ displacement, which made 345 bhp (257 kW). The Edsel Teletouch automatic with selector buttons in the steering wheel hub was part of the basic equipment.

Although the presentation of the car in the fall of 1957 was run with a lot of advertising, the sales figures were disappointing and a disaster for the strategy of offering a model series to oppose the competitor GM in each class. A total of 9,299 Citations were delivered in the USA and Canada , 930 convertibles, 5,588 4-door hardtop models (5,112 from the USA, 476 from Canada) and 2,781 2-door hardtop coupés (2,535 from the USA and 246 from Canada). The sales prices ranged between US $ 3,500 and US $ 3,766.

In the 1959 model year, the Citation and Pacer models were phased out; The Teletouch automatic transmission, which was only introduced in autumn 1958 and caused a lot of trouble, also disappeared .

The Citation Cabriolet is one of the brand's most sought-after models today.
