Eduard Bohn (born February 5, 1804 in Saalfeld , † June 23, 1866 in Casekirchen ) was senior teacher , archdeacon and pastor in Saalfeld, Casekirchen and Vierzehnheiligen / Thuringia . His parents were the ducal Saxon court choirmaster, teacher and city churchman Georg Christoph Bohn and Johanna Christiane Magdalena, nee. Weydermann (from the Neue Mühle near Saalfeld).

During his studies he became a member of the Jena fraternity in 1823 .

Eduard Bohn wrote and published numerous poetic and spiritual writings and works. At a people's meeting on the Kapellendorfer Höhe on March 24, 1848, as pastor of Vierzehnheiligen / Thuringia, he gave the great fasting sermon , which demanded justice for the people from the princes. This sermon was widely used in print.

Germany's great sermon on fasting in 1848

In 1848 there was a "meeting of many men from the area" on the Sperlingsberg. The parish chronicle reports “from the popular survey year 1848” and about “the extent to which the parishes ... participated in it.” [BOHN 1858] In “a large popular assembly on the Kapellendorfer Höhe” on March 24, the pastor of Vierzehnheiligen held “Germany's great Sermon on Lent in 1848 on Isaiah 58: 5-8 ”. [Bohn 1848] He called to the more than 1000 gathered, "God of justice, see this people in their battle-brave awakening ... and lead them back to their holy right". Then he turned to the princes: “May that be your fast, let go of those who are wrongly bound, let go of those you weigh down, tear away all burdens, break the bread for hunger and give them shelter for those who are so in misery and clothes and feeds them, for they are your brothers ... A thunderstorm from evening brought the holy storm over Germany ... and a stormy awakening came over our country ... If you could not be fathers of the people, you will not his executioners. "

The fight was not fruitless. In the Grand Duchy of Saxony, the law on the replacement of landlord rights was passed and municipal regulations were introduced. Freedom of the press, publicity and the oral administration of justice were established, and in 1851 an elementary school law came into force.
