Eduard Freundlinger

Life

Eduard Freundlinger was born in Salzburg in 1970 . At the age of 24 he bought a boat with a friend, crossed the Atlantic and sailed in the Caribbean for a few years. In 1997 he moved to Spain, founded a diving school, a solar energy company and a real estate company. He started writing at the age of 36. His debut work “Pata Negra” became the best-selling book in Allitera's publishing history . This was followed by two more detective novels published by Piper Verlag , “The Black Finca” and “In the Shadow of the Alhambra” , which together form a “Andalusia Trilogy” that builds on one another.

The author has lived in Almuñécar for 20 years , the scene of the events of his Andalusia detective novel trilogy, but regularly undertakes longer journeys, during which he makes a pilgrimage to the Camino de Santiago or sails through the oceans in a boat. He processed the experiences and insights from his numerous worldwide trips to over 50 countries in his autobiographical novel "How I lost my way so as not to fall by the wayside". In addition to his own works, Eduard Freundlinger, as a biographer, creates memoirs for prominent contemporaries.

Style and language

The focus of his crime novels is the unorthodox investigator couple Rubén de Freitas and his partner Lucia Cienfuegos. The plot of his novels are complex, the characters are given space to develop, his narrative style is direct and sober, at times ironic to humorous. By taking into account the Andalusian culture and the inclusion of various original locations, the stories are given authenticity and convey to the readers the feeling of local closeness.

Works

criticism

"Eduard Freundlinger knows how to wrap the storylines into a ball and untangle them again, to keep the reader in suspense, to spice up the action with a subtropical ambience and to capture the Andalusian mentality unobtrusively but accurately."
