Eduard Messmer
Eduard Meßmer (* 1824 ; † October 15, 1910 in Baden ) was a German entrepreneur and is considered a pioneer of the German tea trade .
biography
Messmer was the son of the Baden-Baden hotelier Johann Friedrich Baptist Messmer. On September 21, 1852 he opened a delicatessen and grocery store in Baden-Baden , where he offered various types of tea, among other things. The Messmer tea trading company later developed from the shop .
In 1884 Messmer became purveyor to the court of Wilhelm of Prussia . In 1886 he opened a branch in Frankfurt am Main , which was run by his son Otto Meßmer (* 1858) and was already specialized in tea. In 1895, Messmer registered the name “Thee Meßmer” as a trademark and thus received the first German tea brand.
