Eduard de Hartog
Eduard de Hartog (born as Isaac de Hartog August 15, 1825 in Amsterdam ; died November 8, 1909 in The Hague ) was a Dutch music critic , conductor and composer .
Life
Isaac Hartog was a son of the merchant Hartog de Hartog and Sara Hertz. In 1842 his first name was changed to Eduard. Hartog married Regina Grützki. Hartog received music lessons in Amsterdam from Bernard Koch, Jan George Bertelman (piano) and Gustaaf Adolf Heinze (composition). In 1852 he moved to Paris and studied at the Conservatory with E. Elwart and Karl Anton Eckert and became friends with Henri Litolff . Between 1852 and 1859 he conducted several concerts with the Société de Sainte-Cécile Paris, at which his own compositions were also played. In 1865 his opera Le mariage de Don Lope had its world premiere in Paris. When he lost his fortune, he was forced to give music lessons and worked for Arthur Pougins Supplement to François-Joseph Fétis Biographie universelle des musiciens et bibliographie générale de la musique .
In 1890 he returned to The Hague and worked there as a music critic.
