Eduardo Espinel , full name Eduardo Fabián Espinel Porley , (born June 28, 1972 in Cardona ) is a former Uruguayan football player and current coach.

Career

Player activity

The 1.80 meter tall defensive player Espinel began his football career at the age of 15 with the Wanderers in Cardona. At the age of 17 he made his debut in the first team. In the following years he was appointed to selection teams at both local and departmental level. From the age of 18 he played second class under coach Daniel Enríquez for the Colón Fútbol Club from Montevideo . After three years he left the club and joined the amateur club Unión de Cardona for a year . In 1999 he moved to Plaza Colonia . One year at amateur level, followed by two years in the Segunda División . For the 2002 season he rose with the team in the top Uruguayan league. After relegation in 2005, Espinel ended his professional career there. In the period from 2000 to 2006, 98 games and five goals for the Plaza Colonias team will be performed for him. He then worked in the amateur field for two more years.

Coaching career

Espinel trained a team in Cardona from 2007. In October 2014, he took over the position of head coach at Plaza Colonia during the second division season 2014/15. The club was at the bottom of the table at this point. He started with the team a series of 18 games without defeat and rose to the end of the season in the Primera División . There he led the team to win the 2016 Clausura and thus the runner-up championship in the 2015/16 season. This represented the greatest success in the club's history so far. In June 2016, the Chilean first division side Santiago Wanderers signed him as a coach.
