Eduardo Francisco Mac Loughlin (* 1918 ; † 1983 ), occasionally also written McLoughlin , was an Argentine military, politician and diplomat.

Military and diplomatic career

Eduardo Francisco Mac Loughlin was part of the second generation of an Irish family who immigrated to Argentina from County Wexford . He joined the Argentine Army in 1937 and was trained as an Air Force officer. In 1947 he was sent to the embassy in London as a military attaché . In 1956 he became an attaché in Washington, DC In 1957, Mac Loughlin was briefly Air Force Minister in the government of Pedro Eugenio Aramburu as successor to Julio César Krause. From August 1966 to June 1970 he was Ambassador to the Court of St James’s in London .

As Brigadier General, Mac Loughlin was Home Secretary in the government of General Roberto Marcelo Levingston from June to October 1970 . From June 1972 to May 1973 he was Foreign Minister in the government of General Alejandro Agustín Lanusse . During his tenure, he negotiated - ultimately unsuccessfully - with the British government about a transfer of sovereignty over the Falkland Islands .
