Eduardo Luiz de Meneses Costley-White (born November 21, 1963 in Quelimane , † August 24, 2014 in Maputo ) was a Mozambican writer and poet .

biography

Eduardo White was of British descent on his father's side. His grandfather was English and his father was born in the province of Tete near the Malawian border . His mother is from Lisbon . After three years of training at the Instituto Industrial , White worked in a managerial position in a trading company. In 1984 he founded the magazine Charrua , which played a crucial role in the development of Mozambican literature after independence. He was a senior member of the Mozambican Writers' Association (AEMO). Eduardo White died on August 24, 2014 at the age of 50 in Maputo Central Hospital after a long illness.

White has published numerous volumes of poetry that have received numerous awards. In 2001 he was voted Mozambican Writer of the Year. A theme that runs through his literary work is that of love.
