Edward G. Cox

Edward "Eddie" Godfrey Cox (born September 19, 1876 in Ottawa , Ohio , † December 2, 1963 in Seattle ) was an American linguist and sailor.

Life

He was a professor at Cornell University and then at the University of Washington . He was editor of Modern Language Quarterly from 1943 until his death in 1963 . He is the author of A Reference Guide to the Literature of Travel. Including Voyages, Geographical Descriptions, Adventures, Shipwrecks and Expeditions (subdivided into three volumes: Old World, New World, Great Britain), an important reference work on travel literature , which, with over ten thousand entries, forms a classic bibliography on the subject of travel.
