Edward Glaser

Edward Glaser (born December 26, 1918 in Vienna , † August 29, 1972 in Ann Arbor ) was an American Romanist , Hispanic and Lusitanist .

life and work

Glaser studied in Vienna until 1938. Then he fled to Argentina before Austria was annexed. After six years he went to the United States, where he did military service and studied at Wayne State University in Detroit (graduated in 1948). He received his doctorate in 1951 from Harvard University with the thesis Los Argentinos vistos por sí mismos .

Glaser taught at Harvard University as an Instructor (from 1951 to 1954) and as an Assistant Professor of Spanish (from 1954 to 1959). Then he went to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor as Associate Professor of Spanish and Portuguese, from 1962 as Full Professor.
