Edward Noort

Edward Noort (* 1944 in Haarlem ) is a Dutch Reformed theologian .

Life

Edward Noort studied from 1963 to 1969 at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and at the Reformed Theological Seminary in Kampen (theology) and from 1969 to 1973 at the University of Göttingen (Semitic languages, archeology of the Middle East, Old Testament). In 1971 he took the academic exams in the Netherlands (Kampen); Examinations for the position of pastor in the Gereformeerde Kerken in Nederland . From 1971 to 1973 Noort was pastor of the Reformed Church in Göttingen . From 1973 to 1975 he was an academic tutor in the theological faculty of the University of Göttingen. After receiving his doctorate in 1975 at the University of Göttingen (supervisor Walther Zimmerli - magna cum laude), from 1975 to 1979 he was assistant and trainer for Old Testament and archeology in Palestine, theological faculty, University of Göttingen and monastery inspector of the Göttingen Theological Monastery . From 1974 to 1977 Noort was secretary of the congress of the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament, Göttingen 1977. From 1978 to 1979 he taught as visiting professor for archeology in Palestine at the University of Hamburg . From 1979 to 1989 he was Professor of the Old Testament, Reformed Theological Seminary, Kampen. From 1989 to 1993 he taught as a professor for Old Testament and archeology in Palestine, theological faculty in Hamburg . From 1990 to 1991 he held courses at the German Evangelical Institute for Classical Studies in the Holy Land . From 1995 to 1996 he was visiting professor at the United Theological College in Bangalore . In 1998 he was visiting professor at Princeton Theological Seminary. Since 1993 Noort has been professor for ancient Hebrew literature and religious history of ancient Israel, theological faculty and religious studies faculty at the University of Groningen . From 2005 to 2008 he was dean of the faculty for theology and religious studies ( Groningen ). From 2006 to 2011 he was Professor Extraordinaire University of Stellenbosch . In 2009 he became honorary professor for ancient Hebrew literature and history of ancient Israel, Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, University of Groningen.
