Edward Rehatsek

Edward Rehatsek (born July 3, 1819 in Ilok , † December 11, 1891 in Bombay ) was an Austrian - Hungarian orientalist , teacher of Latin and mathematics . He translated literary texts from Arabic and Persian .

Life

Rehatsek studied and obtained his doctorate in Budapest , but left his fatherland in 1842. After stays in France and the United States , he settled permanently in Bombay in 1847 and worked there as a teacher of mathematics and Latin at Wilson College. He stopped working there in 1871 and worked at the University of Bombay for the next ten years . He edited the Persian and Arabic inscriptions in Guzerat for the Archaeological Survey of India (Bombay 1885) and published a catalog of Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Hindostani manuscripts in the Mulla Firuz library (Bombay 1873) as well as English translations of Persian scripts.
