Edward JF Taylor is an American composer , music teacher and jazz - drummer .

Taylor studied jazz music at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Kenny Barron , William Fielder and Keith Copeland and music theory (with Nancy Rao ) and composition (with Charles Wuorinen and Gerald Chenoweth ) at the Graduate School of New Brunswick of Rutgers University . He taught a. a. at Union County College in Cranford (since 2000), Rutgers University (1995–2000), Westminster Conservatory (since 1999) and William Paterson University (since 2004).

As a jazz musician, Taylor performed with various New York groups, including a. with the band Groove Apparatus founded by him, Scott Robert Avidon and Steve Swanson , with whom he released two albums. With James Romig , he founded the Society for Chromatic Art at Rutgers University in 1998 , an ensemble dedicated to performing classical musical works of the 20th century and presenting works by young composers. In addition to works of new music , Taylor composed numerous pieces for jazz ensembles.
