Edward Whitacre, Junior

Edward E. "Ed" Whitacre, Junior (born November 4, 1941 in Ennis , Texas ) was General Motors Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from December 1, 2009 to September 1, 2010 . From June 2009 to the end of 2010 he was Chairman of the Board of Directors. He was previously CEO at AT&T . From 1998 to 2000 he was President of the Boy Scouts of America .

Life

Whitacre's career began with Southwestern Bell in 1963 . In 1988 he became President of the Regional Bell Operating Company . Whitacre resigns as chairman of AT&T, Bell's successor company; he gets $ 158 million in severance pay. In 2009, following the resignation of Frederick Henderson, he became CEO of General Motors; In 2011, Daniel Akerson followed him as CEO of General Motors.
