The Edwards Islands are a group of around 20 small and mostly ice-free islands off the Walgreen coast of West Antarctic Ellsworthland . In the Amundsen Sea they are located off the southwest tip of the Canisteo Peninsula .
Aerial photographs of the United States Navy's VX-6 squadron from January 1960 were used for its training. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in the same year after Z. T. Edwards (1919-1996), quartermaster of the icebreaker USS Glacier , which operated in the area in February 1960.
