Edwin Wiegele (born August 20, 1954 in Villach , Carinthia ) is an Austrian painter, graphic artist, art educator, gallery owner and musician. Due to his origins in Feistritz an der Gail , he came into contact very early on with the rich tradition of classical modernism around the Nötscher district , which obviously had a lasting impact on him.

Life

Wiegele studied art education at the Pedagogical University in Klagenfurt and at the Pedagogical Institute in Graz. From 1983 to 2007 he taught art education at various secondary schools, such as the BRG – Klagenfurt / Viktring and the Alpen-Adria Gymnasium Völkermarkt. In 2007 Edwin Wiegele was awarded the title of professor by the Federal President of Austria.

Works

"mea philyra - my linden tree", 2013

Very intensive examination of the watercolor, especially the wet in wet technique from 1979 to 1993. Numerous group exhibitions, "Austrian watercolorists of the present" in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

Since 1991 Edwin Wiegele has been running the Atelier-Galerie Wiegele in the historic care house in Heunburg, at the foot of the Heunburg , with the presentation of his own current works and artists from the Alpe-Adria region.

With his exhibitions and innovative art projects in public space, Edwin Wiegele has repeatedly influenced and enriched the extremely fruitful cultural exchange in the Alps-Adriatic region in a way that unites and promotes peace.

Experimenting with a wide variety of materials and techniques enables the artist to constantly gain new access to the visual arts. Lately nature and the environment, threatened in their existence, have moved more and more into the center of his artistic work. “Mea philyra - my linden tree”, a new cycle was created in 2013.

Wiegele developed his own kind of reverse glass painting, in which he scratched out several layers of paint and painted over again.

As independent and unmistakable work complexes in their individual imagery, many ceramic works, photo series, film projects and music videos with the artist's own compositions have been created over the last few decades.

Wiegele's focus is not only on the various techniques and branches of the visual arts, such as drawing , watercolor , mixed media , collage , photography and ceramics . Wiegele also created great land art projects in and around Völkermarkt, around 2002/2003 the imposing island sculpture and the light installation of the reservoir bridge.

“Art in architecture” - projects such as Tainach elementary school, Neuhaus senior center, AMS -Völkermarkt, Brückl municipal office and many more.
