Eemil halons
Eemil Halonen (born May 21, 1875 in Lapinlahti , † November 5, 1950 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish sculptor . His cousin was the artist Pekka Halonen (1865–1933).
Halonen is one of Finland's most important sculptors today. In his works he often devoted himself to depicting female characters from the Finnish national epic Kalevala . One of his most famous works in public space, however, is a sculpture by the Finnish suffragette Minna Canth in the city of Kuopio , which was unveiled in 1937.
After studying art at the Kuvataideakatemia in Helsinki and after several trips to Russia, France and Italy, he worked mainly in Helsinki until his death. His home and studio were in the Kallio district of Helsinki .
In his place of birth Lapinlahti is the Halonen Museum, in which some of his works are exhibited. The museum opened in 1974.
