The Efka works are in Trossingen -based, Europe-known manufacturer of cigarette paper . They were founded in 1912 by Fritz Kiehn , whose initials gave the company its name, and his wife Berta as a cigarette paper factory. Kiehn managed the company until 1972 when he had to relinquish management at the age of 87.

history

1945–1949 Fritz Kiehn was a prisoner of war and in 1949 took over Efka again. After the Second World War, the plant was rebuilt and significantly expanded. In the 1970s and 1980s, Efka established itself as the world market leader for cores and cores. a. for cigarette stuffer and cigarette paper. In 2000 Imperial Tobacco took over Efka and its subsidiaries; However, Efka remained independent within the group of companies.

The company produces around 17.9 billion filter tubes per year (as of 2015), in the Federal Republic of Germany mainly for the brands West , Columbus, Route 66; other well-known branded products are JPS and Rizla. Efka sells its products internationally in around 25 countries. With 45%, Germany is the most important sales market, Belgium and France as well as Poland , the Czech Republic and Slovakia are among the important sales areas.

In January 2020, it was announced at a works meeting that the British parent company had decided to close the Trossingen plant, which employs 131 people, in 2021. The reason given was the low capacity utilization of the plant due to falling demand. Production stopped in June 2020.

efkadruck

The printing and packaging division of the then economically troubled Efka-Werke was spun off in 1970 into an independent company called efkadruck . This changed hands several times, but kept the name efkadruck until 2006. After bankruptcy, efkadruck was taken over by the Ettling-based commercial printing company Kraft-Druck in 2006 . In 2012 the company moved from Trossingen to Spaichingen , and the Trossingen company building with the striking Efka tower was demolished. After another bankruptcy, the Spaichingen plant was taken over in 2016 by the packaging companies Casimir Kast ( Gernsbach ) and Rack & Schuck ( Mannheim ), which continued to run it as an independent company, Kraft Display GmbH . At that time 45 of the 90 employees were taken over, but in 2018 production was completely relocated to the locations of the parent company, so that now (as of 2019) fewer than 10 employees are employed in Spaichingen.
