The protected landscape area 1.35.067 Egautal and Katzensteiner Tal with adjacent parts of the terrain in the district of Heidenheim (Baden-Württemberg) extends from Iggenhausen in the north to Katzenstein in the east to Dischingen in the south. It is mainly used for agriculture. In it is the Härtsfeldsee . The disused Härtsfeldbahn passing there is to be reactivated as a museum railway coming from Neresheim to the lake.
