Newman Shoal is a shoal off the Ingrid Christensen coast of Princess Elisabeth Land in East Antarctica . It is located 160 m southeast of Hobby Rocks on the southwest side of Davis Anchorage Bay immediately in front of the Vestfold Mountains at a depth of around 5 m.
It was mapped during survey work carried out on the ship Thala Dan in 1961 as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named the Nunatakker after Alan J. Newman, chief diesel generator mechanic at Mawson Station in 1961, who was involved in surveying the Davis Station area .
