Egbesu
Egbesu is a war deity of the Ijaw on the Niger Delta and the name of the community that fights the devil .
According to the belief of the Ijaw, God Egbesu can only be used when injustice has been done, and only by persons who are “at peace with the universe”. The symbol of divine revelation is the leopard .
The worship of Egbesu developed very strongly with the occupation of the coastal strip by the English in the late 19th century, when most of Ijaw Egbesu only knew from folklore and some war songs.
The Egbesu Boys of Africa are a religiously motivated militant association.
