Egidijus Jarašiūnas

Egidijus Jarašiūnas (born October 9, 1952 in Sendvariai, Rajongemeinde Kelmė ) is a Lithuanian lawyer, constitutional lawyer , professor of public law and former judge at the European Court of Justice .

biography

After graduating from the 6th Panevėžys Middle School in 1970, he did military service in the Soviet Army . Egidijus Jarašiūnas studied law at Vilnius University until 1979 and worked as a lawyer in Širvintos from 1980 and in Panevėžys from 1982. In Panevėžys he was a co-founder of the local Sąjūdis group.

From 1988 to 1990 Jarašiūnas was a member of parliament of the Lithuanian SSR and chairman of the Panevėžys City Council. In 1990 he was elected as a member of the Aukščiausioji Taryba-Atkuriamasis Seimas Supreme Council and served on the Legal Committee there. He worked on the 1992 Lithuanian constitution . Jarašiūnas was also a member of the Russia-Lithuania Intergovernmental Negotiating Group and a member of the Baltic Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. In 1992 he was re-elected as a member of the Seimas in Panevėžys City's 26th constituency and returned to work on the Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee. From 1996 to 2005 Jarašiūnas was a judge at the Lithuanian Constitutional Court ( Konstitucinis Teismas ) and then worked there as a legal assistant to the judge. From 2010 Jarašiūnas worked as a judge from Lithuania at the European Court of Justice. His activity at the ECJ ended in October 2018.

In 1999, Jarašiūnas received his doctorate from the Mykolas-Romer University on the subject of problems of the relationships between state institutions in constitutional justice (Valstybės valdžios institucijų santykių problemos konstitucinėje justicijoje) . He was a professor and chair holder of constitutional law at the MRU University . His areas of teaching include comparative law and constitutionalism in Eastern and Central Europe.

Jarašiūnas has published over 30 scientific articles in legal magazines in Lithuania and abroad, and has participated in international legal conferences. He has worked as a visiting professor at various universities abroad.

Jarašiūnas is married and has a son and a daughter.
