Egon Rusch

Egon Rusch (born September 18, 1928 in Hörbranz ) is a former Austrian amateur boxer .

Boxing career

In 1955 he was Austrian welterweight champion (60-63.5 kg), 1956 and 1958 Austrian light middleweight champion (63.5-71 kg), 1957 and 1959 Austrian middleweight champion (71-75 kg) and Austrian champion in 1963 Light heavyweight (75–81 kg).

He took part in the middleweight division in the Summer Olympics in Rome in 1960, where he was defeated in the first fight by the South African Frederik Van Rooyen on points. At 31 years and 343 days, he is also the oldest Austrian Olympic participant in boxing to date.

His son Egon Rusch junior set world records in fire-swallowing in 1985 and 1988.
