List of apple varieties

Egremont Russet is a variety of apple. After Gala , Cox Orange and Bramley , it is one of the four varieties that are still grown commercially in England. It is mainly used as a table apple and is occasionally grown in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The medium-sized apple has a yellow-greenish base color in autumn it takes on a golden color, up to half of it is covered in reddish-brown. Much of the surface is rusted. The aroma is nutty, it can be stored in a fresh store from October to December. He is counted in the group of gray reindeer .

The trees are small to medium in size with beautifully blooming flowers. They also grow in colder climates with high rainfall. Its yield is high and regular. The tree grows best in the sun, but can also tolerate partial shade. The apple needs well-draining soil and a sheltered location. The apple is resistant to apple scab and somewhat prone to fire blight and speck .

It is marketed primarily as a "different apple", which already clearly sets itself apart from the other varieties in the trade. It is clearly rusted and has a dry pulp. In Germany, the fruit growing research institute Jork took the apple into its experimental cultivation in 1960, but did not recommend it.

The apple won an Award of Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1980 and an Award of Garden Merit in 1993 .
