Egschiglen ( Mongolian Эгшиглэн , German for example: "Wohlklang" or " Schöne Melodie") is a Mongolian music ensemble that was founded in 1991 by four students at the Conservatory in the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator , where they studied together between 1984 and 1991.

The ensemble consists of five musicians, traditional and contemporary Mongolian music on traditional instruments such as the two-stringed horse-head fiddle morin khuur , the dulcimer joochin , the zither Yatga , the fretless, two-stringed long-necked loud tobshuur , the painted horse head-bass ih khuur and the frame drum hets ( Shaman's drum ) play. The singing is soloistic and polyphonic in the style of the overtone singing typical of Central Asia ( Khöömii ) and the Urtiin duu ("Long Song").

In addition to ritual and profane music, Egschiglen also adapt elements of Western music such as rap elements and play works by contemporary Mongolian composers.

The musicians have been living in Röthenbach an der Pegnitz in Franconia for one time of year since 1995 . Through encounters with local musicians and instrument makers, they also dealt with Bavarian and Alpine folk music traditions and worked on Franconian folk songs in the Mongolian style.

Egschiglen appear regularly at renowned world music and classical festivals, especially in Western Europe and Asia.
