Former officers' mess of the Belgian army
The former officers' mess of the Belgian army is located in Düren in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The building is at Markt 16 and has been used for many years in gastronomy, currently (2011) by the system catering Cafe extrablatt . Up until the 1970s, Düren was the largest Belgian garrison abroad. The house was built as an officers' mess for members of the Belgian army . Before the Second World War , this was the location of the Zum Goldenen Stör , which was completely destroyed in the air raid on November 16, 1944.
The house was planned and built in 1952 by the Düren architect Benno Sommer . The three-storey eaves building has a gable roof . The clipped facade is made of shell limestone and has five window axes. At the side is a risalit with an entrance. The structured steel windows are asymmetrical.
The building is entered under No. 1/107 in the list of monuments of the city of Düren.
