Former primary school Heidkamp 2016

The former elementary school Heidkamp is located at Bensberger Straße 133 in the Heidkamp district of the city of Bergisch Gladbach in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district .

history

The first school was opened in today's Heidkamp district in 1874, but it soon turned out to be too small. That is why in 1892 a new school was built as a longitudinal building at the current location. The population growth soon increased, partly due to the construction of the Gronauerwald garden settlement , so that additional classrooms were required. Therefore, in 1923, a southern transverse building was added as an extension with four classrooms, two teacher's apartments and an auxiliary school. When it was completed, there were 520 students in eight classes. During the Second World War , the school also served as a warehouse for soldiers and the homeless, so that school operations were only possible to a limited extent. In 1968, as part of the educational reform, the elementary school was divided into primary and secondary schools. The secondary school moved into a new building on Ahornweg. From now on there was a Catholic and a Protestant primary school, both of which stayed in place until 1981 and then moved to a new building in Bonnschlade .

The school building was then used by the vocational school opposite and the working group for social minorities (AKSM). The latter set up a youth workshop with youth counseling. The Arbeiterwohlfahrt continued the activities of the AKSM from 1990 onwards.

The city of Bergisch Gladbach has since sold the property to a private entrepreneur. He is currently redesigning the complex and renovating it so that it can be used for private purposes, subject to the requirements of the monument authority.

monument

The building is registered as architectural monument no. 179 in the list of architectural monuments in Bergisch Gladbach .
