The honor plaque of the city of Euskirchen is an award for personalities who have made a name for themselves in the cultural field of the district town of Euskirchen . It has been awarded since 1960, at irregular intervals also to people who "have made particular efforts to come to terms with the history of Euskirchen". The plaque of honor is awarded by the respective mayor of the city of Euskirchen on the occasion of a ceremony.

The silver-colored honor plaque has a diameter of 70 mm and shows the coat of arms on the front and the name of the city of Euskirchen on the back. It is in a handsome case .

Excellent people

For the first time, the honor plaque of the city of Euskirchen was given to senior director i. R. Josef Franke (1880–1965) presented. On the occasion of a ceremony in the meeting room of the Euskirchen town hall, Mayor Jacob Kleinertz paid tribute to the research work of the first chairman of the Association of Friends of History and Homeland, who had made a special contribution to the three-volume work 650 Years of Euskirchen Town (1952).

The few honored so far include a. also the former director of the grammar school Marienschule Euskirchen , Carl Schlesinger (* 1937), and the then teacher and city historian Hans-Dieter Arntz (* 1941). They were announced in 1978 as part of the 110th anniversary of the grammar school by Mayor Josef Schlösser u. a. honored for her years of research on the "Euskirchen - City of Schools" project.
