Arntz mainly publishes in historical yearbooks and daily newspapers and gives lectures. His books concentrate on Rhenish regional studies as well as contemporary history and deal mainly with National Socialism , the persecution of Jews and the end of the war in 1944/45.

He made recommendations for naming streets and erecting memorials to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and the Second World War . Because of his German-Jewish reconciliation work, which u. a. Arntz received national and international awards in the form of the provision of completed pension notices, the reunification of Jewish families and the organization of meetings with former Jewish fellow citizens.

Published in 1986 the book Arntz Order Castle Vogelsang 1934-1945 - education for political leaders in the Third Reich , which as Ordensburg Vogelsang talent hotbeds of designated Nazism discussed. His main work is the regional historical documentation of the persecution of Jews and escape assistance in the German-Belgian border area . Here u. a. Court files of exemplary synagogue fire trials and previously unknown escape aid organizations that brought refugees across the Green Border until 1943/44 are shown .

The work The Last Jewish Elder of Bergen-Belsen , first published in 2012 , contains the biography of Josef Weiss and documents a respected "concentration camp Jewish elder" for the first time as an overall representation. Up to now, Holocaust research has not known any “prison functionary” who can be shown to remain so “worthy in an unworthy environment”.
