The Obermayer Award is presented annually by the Obermayer Foundation, a foundation in the city of West Newton , Massachusetts .

German citizens are honored who made special contributions to preserve the Jewish history and culture of their communities. The aim is to recall the German-Jewish coexistence of the past and restore it for the future.

The foundation that awards the awards was created by Arthur S. Obermayer , a board member of the American-Jewish Society whose ancestors came from Germany.

The winners are proposed worldwide, especially by Jews, who want to express their appreciation and thanks for the work done.
