Decoration of honor of the DRK in silver

The decoration of the DRK of the GDR was one of the highest honors of the German Red Cross in the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in three stages, bronze , silver and gold . It was awarded for particularly meritorious achievements and in recognition of many years of exemplary duty in the DRK of the GDR.

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze, silver-plated or gold-plated pin badge is round, has a diameter of 39 mm and shows a white central medallion with a red enameled cross on its front, which was then painted from 1973 onwards. The middle medallion is enclosed by a circle with the inscription: FOR MERIT , which makes up about 1/4 of the circumference. The remainder is laid out by four oak leaves that extend upwards on both sides of the inscription. This circle is in turn enclosed by a circle that shows the inscription: GERMAN ROTES KREUZ (above) and GERMAN DEMOCRATISCHE REPUBLIK (below). With the award of the badge, the entrusted received a miniature needle that is 16.5 mm in size. In 1969, the foundation statutes were expanded, so that from this point onwards a gold medal (diameter 31 mm) with a bar of honor was awarded. The bar of honor itself has the dimensions 30.5 × 10.5 mm and shows a red cross in the middle, which is flanked by an oak leaf.
